Celebrating Community at the Judi Shesh Memorial 5K Run/Walk

Every spring, hundreds of runners, walkers, volunteers, survivors, and supporters gather in Bay Shore for one of Long Island's most meaningful community events—the Judi Shesh Memorial 5K Run/Walk. Hosted by the YMCA of Long Island at the Great South Bay YMCA, the event is much more than a race. It is a celebration of resilience, remembrance, and hope.

The run honors the memory of Judi Shesh, a beloved YMCA preschool teacher, mother, friend, and community leader. After courageously battling breast cancer twice, Judi passed away in 2001 at the age of 41. Her impact on the community was so profound that friends, family members, and YMCA supporters created an annual event to carry forward her spirit of kindness, strength, and service.
